Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IAÌìÃÀ´«Ã½C) Approvals

If you plan to use animals in your research, you will need to involve ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ÌýBoulder’s Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IAÌìÃÀ´«Ã½C). The primary function of the IAÌìÃÀ´«Ã½C is to ensure ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ Boulder's compliance with all state and federal regulations surrounding the humane care and use of animals in research and teaching.

Sponsors do not normally require IAÌìÃÀ´«Ã½C approval at time of proposal submission, but many require prior approval to funding. Therefore, *Principal Investigators (PIs) should consult with IAÌìÃÀ´«Ã½C and request approvals in a timely manner. Keep in mind that NIH requires IAÌìÃÀ´«Ã½C approval at the just in time (JIT) stage, and, if awarded, a project SpeedType will not be setup until approval has been obtained.

If you are unsure whether or not your project requires IAÌìÃÀ´«Ã½C review, visit the IAÌìÃÀ´«Ã½CÌýwebsite. If you are a new researcher or need more guidance on animal research, see IAÌìÃÀ´«Ã½C’s Getting Started page.
