Peter Grandbois’s unblinking fictions in Domestic Disturbances are composed of the most composed deadpan takes this side of Buster Keaton. The fictions startle down the stare—curious, nonplussed, bemused—an unmussed must have. Disturbing, yes, in the way we seem to see Buster fall through the façade of that building in that storm. Domestic, in the way rye bread can sour sweetly into wideeyed hallucinogenic toasts. Wry indeed.
