Chloe Theil (RelEst, Mktg鈥23)
Former President, Women in Business

Chloe Theil was highly involved on campus, but she was most passionate about Women in Business. When she took over as president in fall 2022, the club had only 10 active members. But Chloe was determined to revive the club and grow its membership.

She drew on the leadership lessons she learned in her classes, including conflict resolution. When she felt that a club member wasn鈥檛 pulling her weight, she knew how to have a discussion about it in a constructive way.

But more than anything, Chloe relied on her experience working on group projects and her time working at Leeds Technology Services. These experiences taught her how to communicate effectively with people she didn鈥檛 know well and how to build empathy for others.

Thanks to Chloe鈥檚 hard work and dedication, Women in Business is now thriving. The club has over 200 active members, and it is a valuable resource for women on campus.

Some first-year students might be intimidated by the prospect of a leadership position with Boulder Freeride, 天美传媒鈥檚 largest student organization, comprised of 1,500 active members.

Instead of fear, Emily Campbell saw opportunity. As the ski club鈥檚 sponsorship director, a position she鈥檚 held from her first year, she uses the skills she鈥檚 learned at Leeds to build relationships with outdoor companies, get discounts for members, and start scholarship programs. Now, going into her senior year, she鈥檚 an expert.

The role is demanding, but Campbell said it鈥檚 worth it. Her goal within Freeride and throughout her life is to build an inclusive and accessible community鈥攐ne where she can speak up for those who can鈥檛. She believes leading with empathy is most important as a leader, along with thinking about all stakeholders鈥攊ncluding future generations and marginalized communities.

Kevin Nguyen and Julie Huang have a lot in common鈥攖hey came from large high schools, are majoring in the same field, and dream of working for a technology company. Now, together, they鈥檙e leading the Multicultural Business Student Association (MBSA), a club that helps diverse students network with well-known companies.

One of their shared goals is to create more community within the club, including hangouts outside of meetings and in less professional settings. They鈥檙e already on track鈥攈osting various field days, trivia nights, community service events and nights throughout the semester.

It was important for both Nguyen and Huang to lead a club representing diverse backgrounds and believe their club can only be as strong as their connections to one another. They hope to create a better, more inclusive environment for all their members.

鈥淚 enjoy helping a smaller community within Leeds where I can promote diversity and inclusion, especially for those trying to find a community to be a part of,鈥 Nguyen said.

Even when there are times that they feel like they have no one, they will always have their members through MBSA and each other to rely on.
